Getting Distressed

I do so love playing with my polymer clay and when I bought some beautiful jasper beads it inspired me to made some polymer clay beads to go with them.
I started off by mixing a blend of turquoise, green and a little bit of white to create a lovely blue green shade. I then textured the beads using old cuttlebug folders, a bark texture on one side and a dotty pattern on the other. Hmm...too blue, they needed to be toned down, so I used some fantastic gilders wax in shades of rust, slate and then highlighted with gold. A little better don't you think?
Waxed and distressed beads

Now to the task of making something to wear. I had enough beads to make a necklace set and a bracelet
I have added a few pictures to try and give you a good view of both.

My DH doesn't like them but I do! What does he know about jewellery anyway..:-)

Both items now available on our website

Folksy Friday "Oh I do love to be by the seaside......"

Many handcrafted and handmade items are inspired by nature. One of the wonders of nature is the power o the sea. The sea is vast and shades of grey, turquoise, aquamarine and silver have inspired artists all over the world and through the centuries. I asked my Fellow Folksy artisans to show their sea side inspired items and I hope you enjoy the selection that I have found for you.
Beach Pottery & Sterling Silver Pendant

This pendant has been made from upcycled willow pattern china and it comes complete on a sterling silver chain. The seller can send the pendant without the chain if required. Unique piece of sea pottery jewellery!
The link to the Folksy shop S Gisborne is below the picture
Beach Shell Wreath

This beautiful wreath has been made from seashells, ribbon, netting and sizal rope. A really charming item to have at home to remind you of trips to the sea shore. The Folksy shop is Beach Photography and Beach Crafts (link below the picture)

Deck Chairs at the Seaside

An iconic image of the seaside is represented by these delightful canvases. We must all remember seaside holidays as children, building sandcastles whilst the 'grown ups' sat in their stripy deck chairs eating ice cream cornets.
Sea Shell Bracelet
The paintings are by Cute Canvases (link below the picture)

This lovely bracelet by Di Keeble Jewellery has all the elements of a summer sea. It incorporates shimmery blue and green, handmade polymer clay beads, glass beads and sea shell charms. A perfect bracelet for the summer. I am a great admirer of Di who makes some stunning polymer clay pieces.
Beach Sea Washed Glass

This piece of sea washed glass was found by myself on a beach on the Firth of Forth in Scotland. I have wrapped it with silver plated wire and put it on a silver plated wire. I find sea glass fascinating as it is something that has been smoothed by the ebb and flow of the tides, sand and rocks. This particular piece is available in my Folksy shop but there are a couple more on my website

Seashell and mosaic wall art

My final choice for this week is a mosaic piece of wall art.
This features recycled items, polished stones and shells. A lovely piece of the sea shore to hang on your wall. Check out this great shop for other beautiful mosaics.

Mojo like the elusive Haggis?

A lot of crafters lose their mojo occasionally, they search for it in craft cupboards, on the internet, in books and in nature. Sometimes it goes missing for weeks and cannot be found anywhere, a bit like the elusive Haggis. I wonder if Mojo could be baited or talked to in a firm voice?
I hadn't lost my mojo completely but I had forgotten some of the fun I had making different things.
A walk on the beach at weekend changed that. It was a thick mist and I could only see in front a few yards but there on the beach were some fantastic pieces of  seaglass, tumbled smooth by the waves and the sand in the Firth of Forth, Scotland. So, it was off to my local bead shop to pick up some wire.
Forth Bridge Cufflinks
Of course a trip to the bead shop end up with you spending more than you intended, and I spotted some stunning amethyst semi precious gemstones. Hunter gatherer instincts flooded in and my purse became a good few £'s lighter.

So don't be disheartened, it may take some time but your Mojo will be found, it could be right in front of you but your eyes don't see it. Just turn over a couple of pebbles....and there you are!

Polymer clay, versatile medium, faux leather

Polymer clay is so versatile. You can use it to make different textures and effects and also to make intricate canes. My cane work on the whole is not that good but I keep trying!
The latest technique that I have attempted is faux leather. I worked on these key rings / tags last week and I think I have given them the full treatment, making them look quite old. I wonder if people will think that they are old and won't buy them, thinking I am selling 2nd hand goods...hmmmm...lol

I love this leather look and hope to make up a couple of pendants too, I rather like the retro daisy look that I have used on the key rings. A couple of the other tags/ key fobs I made feature rubber stamps at the centre. For these I just used a brown polymer clay mix and the car and the key have been slightly highlighted in copper. I am not sure whether that shows well in the photo.
Last but not least is this small polymer clay book brooch. I call it a mystical book of spells. An all seeing eye peeps at you from the cover. The pages of the book have been antiqued to give it a sense of age. I don't know whether anyone would be brave enough to wear it? I would, as I am slightly eccentric..would you?
The spell book brooch is available on my website, it will be interesting to see if it is to anyones taste! If not I may treat myself
Would you be brave enough?

Is untidiness a sign of a creative mind ?

I always said that I lived in organised chaos, but I am not so sure that my chaos is organised anymore. I don't know whether it is a sign of age or I am just developing a more untidy mind. I tend to panic about the slightest thing and spent approximately 2 hours today trying to hunt down a particular bracelet which I made only a couple of weeks ago. No sofa or cat (awwwww) was unturned. Anyhoo....I finally realised that I had sent it with some other jewellery to a stockist. Panic over you may say..but no, it churns me up for the next hour or so. Today ended up being a total waste creatively, although the bonus is, my jewellery is VERY tidy.
Am I the only one who is like that.......?

Crafting Butterfly and oh my 6 months since I blogged!

Steampunk Kraken Octopus Necklace
I can't believe that I have not written my blog for so long! There is so much that has happened in the last 6 months, not sure that I can remember much of it !
Firstly, hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year...very belated I know! I had a really good run up to Christmas with the craft fairs I had booked and fortunately this year I wasn't snowed off any of them. The website is still doing well and the watch movement cufflinks have been very popular !
I have had a play with my clay again, creating a fantasy octopus

I have also made a couple of necklaces and a ring in the steampunk style, which I am quite pleased with

These can be found in a new section of my website Steampunk Quirky and Unique Jewellery. I have recently done some beading work but that WONT be taking over because although I do enjoy doing it, my eyes go really blurry afterwards
I do worry that I flit from one style to another but that's what I enjoy doing. I must confuse my customers with my variety of styles.
Do you confuse your customers?
